Questions
- What is FastDog?
- FastDog puts your website behind our edge. We answer HTTPS for your hostname with a certificate we get for you, then pass each request to your app through a tunnel that your server opens to us. You don’t open ports or move your app.
- How do I connect my app?
- Create an account in the portal, add your hostname, add two DNS records, then run the connect command on the server where your app runs. The docs walk through each step.
- Which DNS records do I need?
- A CNAME on your hostname pointing at the target the portal shows, and a TXT record on
_fastdog-challenge.plus your hostname that proves you control it. Keep both in place while you use FastDog, and remove both if you leave so no record points at us. On Cloudflare, set the CNAME to “DNS only”. - Do I have to move my domain or nameservers?
- No. Your domain stays with your registrar and your DNS stays where it is. You only add the two records.
- What do you log?
- We keep your account email with your account, not in logs. Logs hold IP addresses in rate limits, Verdict’s decision log (time, IP address, path without the query string and the decision; kept about 7 days), web server access logs (method, path without the query string, status, response time and a shortened IP; on our own website and on sites whose owners opt in to Verdict, also the browser’s user agent, cut to 256 characters) and our DNS servers’ lookup logs (the requesting IP address, the name and record type asked for, and the result). On our own sites Verdict also keeps a scoring log for about 30 days: time, hostname, a shortened IP, network (ASN), method, path without the query string, user agent and the score. For sites whose owners opt in to Verdict, Verdict also keeps a per-request scoring log (time, hostname, method, path without the query string, status, a shortened IP, the score, the decision and its reasons, whether the check failed open, and the user agent cut to 256 characters), deleted automatically after about 10 days; no cookies, passwords, tokens or other login data are logged. Other headers and cookies are not stored. We don’t store request or response bodies. Logs are deleted automatically. Many are gone within 30 days, but some are kept longer because log files are deleted a set time after they roll over. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
- Do you sell my data?
- No. We don’t sell it or use it for advertising.
- Is there a free trial?
- Yes. When you sign up in the portal without an invitation, you get a 7-day free trial with 1 hostname, and you don’t need a card to start. On day 8 we pause the hostname until you pick a plan (Hobby or higher, see the pricing page). To pick one, email support from your account’s email address. We don’t delete the hostname; once you’re on a plan it comes back.
- How much does it cost?
- Plans are monthly in US dollars. See the pricing page for current plans and limits.
- Is there an uptime guarantee?
- No. We work hard to stay up, but there is no service level agreement. See the Terms of Service.
- How do I delete my account?
- Remove your CNAME and
_fastdog-challengeTXT records so no record points at us, then email support from your account’s email address and ask us to delete the account. We check the request with you at that address before deleting anything. We then revoke your agent credentials and API keys, release your hostnames and delete your account details. - How do I get help?
- Email support@fastdognetworks.com with your hostname and what you see. The portal footer also shows the support address.
